OUR

MISSION

Our mission stated simply: To expand on and catalyze the growth of the sport of fencing.  We will utilize any and every resource and collaboration available to further this goal.

Why? You may ask. Because fencing is awesome!  It provides so many opportunities and benefits for the communities that have it available.  It is a safe sport, with one of the lowest injury rates of all NCAA and Olympic sports. The national and international fencing community is full of highly successful and intelligent individuals with loads of passion for the sport and their fellow people.  Few sports open eyes to such a culturally advanced and developed people with such passion and willingness to help one another grow successfully through all stages of their lives.

All sports are essential for children’s social, mental and physical development, but fencing provides so much more than that to its communities!  Fencing provides one of the highest proportions of college scholarships to athletes amongst NCAA sports, especially for women athletes. More fencers also continue to participate in fencing through college and beyond, which is important in helping to maintain access to a healthy community and activities through that transition.

Fencing is one of the most internationally practiced sports in the world, making it one of the most culturally diverse sports available.  The southeast will heavily benefit from having more avenues for people to access and understand the different cultures and ideals of the rest of this people in the world; rather than being stuck in their echo-chambers, fencing helps bring more people together to hold important conversations.

Fencing Bout

The national and international fencing community includes a healthy and powerful network of people who continuously guide and support its participants to have successful lives.  Fencers often maintain some of the highest average GPAs compared to participants of other sports.  The opportunity to referee for the sport offers more opportunities as well compared to most sports, as referees are flown around the country and the world to officiate fencing.

This sport has been growing fast, especially in the northeast and southwest of the US, but the growth has not been nearly as great in the southeast region.  Our mission is to catalyze the development of fencing in the southeast.  SEF will do this in a plethora of ways:

  • Marketing/Media Campaigns to improve fencing PR – fencing is an amazing sport with so many opportunities, but let’s be honest, the sport has been completely misrepresented for way too long and we need to better educate the country on exactly what our sport is. If curling can do it, so can we!  We will mostly target marketing in the south, but there will likely be national campaigns in collaboration with others as well.

  • We will create more school fencing programs in the southeast at all levels of education, especially targeting schools near already established fencing clubs.

  • Host Referee and coaching Clinics – naturally, there is a need for more referees and coaches to support the growth of infrastructure which we also intend to stipend.

  • SEF will host tournaments and fencing camps as well in order to increase the overall level of fencing.

  • We will provide scholarship opportunities for more fencers.

In order to do this successfully, we need your donations!  Please help contribute to our organization so that we can continue to develop fencing in the southeast to give more communities the extensive benefits that our wonderful sport provides!
